Position Overview:
As a Geometry and Simulation Development (CAD) Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our Manufacturing Engineering division. You will be responsible for the design, development, and optimisation of advanced assembly fixtures and tools for our car body and paint assembly processes. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring precise geometric alignment, efficient assembly strategies, and seamless integration of components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop Body in White (BIW) and Paint assembly fixtures, ensuring alignment with engineering standards and guidelines.
- Employ 3D and 2D design tools to create detailed fixture designs, from concept to final handover to the tool room.
- Apply your expertise in locator strategy and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to achieve optimal assembly and measurement precision.
- Conduct compatibility assessments to ensure seamless integration of products, processes, and tooling, minimising compatibility issues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance our standards, processes, and methods, ensuring efficient and high-quality fixture design.
- Manage design projects, collaborating with minimal lead engineering support to ensure successful project delivery.
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal customers and suppliers to gather necessary data and information.
- Utilise cost engineering methodologies to conduct feasibility studies and support engineering change proposals.
- Work in collaboration with process simulation teams to ensure collision-free studies and robust fixture design.
- Develop, maintain, and update CAD libraries, ensuring accurate and up-to-date resources for future projects.
- Engage in value-for-money assessments for both internal and external designs, considering design, industrialisation, and production aspects.
- Lead buy-off and handover processes, liaising with customers and the tool room to ensure smooth transition and implementation of tooling designs.
- Ensure robust data management practices, delivering accurate and reliable data that meets established standards.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant field (preferred).
- Proven experience in Geometry and Simulation Development, particularly in CAD environments.
- Strong familiarity with Body in White (BIW) and Paint assembly processes and tooling design principles.
- Proficiency in 3D tool design and 2D detail drawings, including experience with tools like Catia V5.
- Knowledge of locator strategy and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
- Track record of successful problem-solving in complex technical scenarios.
- Skilled experience in using MS Office suite.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating effectively.
- Familiarity with Team Centre Engineering and Catia V6 (desirable).
- Prior experience in continuous process improvements and team leadership (desirable).
