Main Purpose of the role
Work alongside the Engineering technician, train and learn the skills necessary to become engineering technician.
Requirements (Training will cover the following but not limited to)
- To work alongside engineers to design, build and test solutions to a variety of technical problems.
- To use CAD software to develop designs and implement feedback from Engineers.
- To assist safe working practices for routine and non-routine tasks.
- To continuously monitor the condition and history of equipment and further develop the system.
- Support trials and new equipment installation and commissioning.
- Design and build prototypes of planned product or equipment and assist in the construction of said products and equipment.
- Maintain records and files of all completed engineering work.
- Provide suggestions for ways to improve products and equipment.
- Modify existing or write from scratch PLC programs to effect system improvements.
- Provide technical support to Engineers and Production including training and upskilling.
- Work closely with manufacturers, suppliers and internal departments in finding ways to improve process and increase machine performance and reliability.
- Respond to and diagnose equipment breakdowns, resolving issues and actioning repairs.
- Identify and rectify repeat issues.
- To read and obtain information from electrical drawings and manuals of various standards.
- Any other reasonable duties.
Person Specifications
- Train to become fully conversant with control systems with a good understanding of motor variable speed technology (preferably Siemens)
- Train to get a good understanding of relay logic systems.
- Train to gain an understanding of networked PLC systems including ability to fault find, modify and perform programming functions (preferably Siemens S7 / Profibus / ASI)
- Using of the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance management Systems)
- Train to gain an understanding of pneumatic control systems and robotics.
- A clear understanding of electrical (e.g. 17th / 18th Edition Wiring Regulations) and process safety standards.
- Understanding of the principles of the HASWA, IOSH and associated regulations.
- Train, and Support the Engineering technician, must be able to take on project tasks and see them through from conception to implementation.
- Must be able to collaborate and remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
- They must be a competent team player with a hands-on approach and also able to work alone.
- The ability to communicate on all levels and confident to make decisions based on information available. English language is a must plus another language would be beneficial.
